Wong Shek Pier (9:30am) for speed boat > Port Island > Speed boat back to Wong Shek Pier (abt. 4:30pm)

( If you would love to join, please leave a message on Trampers’ Facebook so that we could book speed boat without any delay.  Thanks! )

Taking advantage of low water tide on this coming Sunday, June 19, 2016, trampers are going to have a snorkelling tour on Port Island where is sitting at the mouth of Tolo Harbour in Tai Po.  (As the Chinese name Chek Chau implies, Port Island is rust-coloured conglomerate and siltstone.  This extraordinary scene is known as “Danxia Wonder at Sea”.)  We will meet at 9:30am at Wong Shek Pier and hire speed boat (About HKD100.- per head for round trip) directly to Port Island in about 25 mins.  This small island is famous for snorkelling due to its beautiful seabed with many different kinds of corals.  We may have a short coastal walk on this island as well.  At about 4:30pm, the speed boat will bring Trampers back to Wong Shek Pier where public toilets are available.  So, besides additional set of clothes to change, some necessities also need to be considered such as flip flops or sandals, towel, sun glasses, plastic or foamed buoys, shelter or shade and plastic sheeting for the beach.  Of course, please have extra plastic garbage bags for keeping clean on this island.

Public Transport to Wong Shek Pier : (1) Route #94 - from Sai Kung Bus Terminus (abt. 30 mins)

                                                                (2) Route #96R - from Diamond Hill MTR Station (abt. 70 mins)

Please show up in full snorkelling gears with 2 litres of water, lunch, snacks, rain wear, a torch, sun block, hat, gloves and mos-spray (but no cigarette).  If it is raining hard or thunderstorms are threatening, this event may be cancelled.  If in doubt, call the trampers hotline 8209-0517 in the morning.

Disclaimer :  Port Island is NOT a gazetted place for swimming and there is NO life guard or paramedic for emergencies.  Mobile phones may be out of reach as you will NOT be able to connect to any Hong Kong mobile phone networks.  Tidal currents, waves and sea are unpredictable and Trampers (even professional swimmers and divers) would therefore swim / snorkel at their own risks.
