Itinerary

SUBJECT to WEATHER THIS SUNDAY 3 May 2015,  a 3-BOOT route is proposed to trek around Robins Nest and the abandoned mine near Lin Ma Hang at the former Frontier Closed Area of Sha Tau Kok in New Territories, near Shenzhen.

We will meet at 10:00 am at Sheung Shui Station Concourse near exit B2 and take bus 78K or maxicab 55K for Sha Tau Kok and will alight at  Ma Tseuk Lin Tsuen to the starting point of the hiking.

We will first find our route to Robins Nests (some bush  whacking expected), passing Pak Kung Au and then descend towards the Lin Ma Hang abandoned mine.  The abandoned mine and areas around are extremely hazardous and there are uncovered mine shafts (over 10 - 15 metres deep) concealed within bushes. Extreme care is needed and all Trampers shall stay together and you shall NOT venture off trails on your own. [There was a fatal accident a few weeks ago in which a hiker unfortunately fell to his death into one of the uncovered mine shafts over 15m deep.]

After the mine area, we may either return to Wo Keng Shan Road via 塘肚山村, skirting Lin Ma Hang village or may take a north eastery direction towards Tan Shu Hang at Sha Tau Kok [沙頭角担水坑].

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk may still go ahead but we will hike on conventional hiking trails. Please look for announcement on this website or on Facebook the evening before. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, please call 8209-0517.

Please remember to bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water (at least two litres), thick gloves, long trousers, good boots, wind break, sun block, a torch and head lamps with new batteries and a hat. Also, please bring your lunch.
