This week we will look at some listed historic buildings in Wanchai and then explore some forgotten trails at mid levels from Wanchai Gap to West District in HK Island.  Part of the route will be a stroll on a brook with bush walking  and rocks scrambling.  Hikers need to be familiar with stream trekking, rock climbing and not be afraid of heights and be confident on the slippery surfaces of a brook/rocks. A pair of thick gloves, long trousers and proper boots (with non-slip soles) shall be mandatory.

The meeting is for 10:45 am at ATM machines in Wanchai  MTR Station Concourse. The ten minute waiting rule applies.

We will pass Stone Nullah Lane, looking at the Blue House (Chinese 藍屋) which is a 4-storey balcony-type tenement block located at Stone Nullah Lane and is now a Grade One Historic Building.  There we can visit the Hong Kong House of Stories to know a bit more about past history in Hong Kong. We will continue on Queens Road East with a glimpse of the Hung Shing Temple (Chinese 洪聖廟) and then climb some steps passing the Nam Koo Terrace (Chinese 南固臺) which is another Grade One Historic Building located at Ship Street and is popularly known as "The Wan Chai Haunted House".  From Kennedy Road, we will pass Bowen Road to Wanchai Gap Road until the junction with Stubbs Road. We will then venture into narrow twisting trail leading us to Magazine Gap Road in Central.  We will then pass Old Peak Road and walk along another treacherous trail above Conduit Road, until somewhere when we will reach the brook and arrive the Peak.  If time is early, we will descend to Pokfulam Reservoir to end the walk.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk may still go ahead but we will hike on conventional hiking trails. Please look for announcement on this website or on Facebook the evening before. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, please call 8209-0517.

Remember to bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water at least two litres, thick gloves, good boots, sun block, a torch and a hat. Also, bring some lunch for along the way.
