All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

1st generation Trampers our time has come again! I propose a slowplod from Tung Chung MTR (11am) up towards the Buddha and a sharp lefthander down towards Cheung Sha beach, ending at the Stoop for old timessake. Serious Trampers (new generation) can do the same hike via Tai O and meet us at the Stoop. As I don't have my map to hand, this 2 boot hike (does 2 remain in the HK Trampers lexicon?) could take anywhere between 10 minutes (new gen) and 4-5 hours (us oldies).

Bring all the usual paraphernalia, such as plenty of water and walkingsticks, sun block and ear trumpet, etc. See you there, maybe.

John

1. Walk Report - Lantau Island 28 Feb 2010
Walk Report

Up to 25 trampers joined the hike from Tung Chung MTR up to the monasteries around the Big Buddha and then down around the rim of the reservoir down to the South Lantau Road, ending at the Stoop restaurant on Cheung Sha beach. The day was overcast but warm, so good for hiking, although the low cloud hanging over the mountain produced a damp and windy lunch break. This was a gentle stroll of a hike but for some strenuous uphill to start with, so suitable for some, a respite for others, and a source of much complaint from Constance who was expecting the lower slopes of K2 at the very least. But she soon got over her disappointment once the beer and BBQ arrived.

Apologies for not responding to the Q abt which exit. Like George Clooney, I have been Up in the Air for most of the past week.

John

The Trampers' NEP Check

But wait. This does not mean that anyone can join us. You are eligible only if you pass the NEP check:

  • Support our “NO trace behind (except footprints)” policy. You are expected to carry all of your rubbish away, and you are not meant to pick flowers or bring any species away from the walk.
  • Check the boot rating of the walk, estimate your capability realistically, and ENSURE that you can finish the walk at a crisp pace.
  • Show up PUNCTUALLY (no later than 10 minutes after the meeting time) at the meeting point of the walk.

A recap of our boot system
Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system. Easy relaxed walking, usually along the flat or with a few low hills involved. Suitable for inexperienced hikers.
Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system.Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system. More challenging walk, and usually longer (4-5 hours) but still within the endurance and capability of most walkers. Would not involve hills as high as 500 metres.
Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system.Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system.Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system. Requires endurance and not suitable for walkers who have difficulties in high places. 3 boots maybe allocated to a walk because of its length and/or because it involves elevations over 500 metres and/or tough walking. Not recommended for novice hikers.
