All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

Hiking route:

Tsing Shan Monastery> Castle Peak> Leung King Au> Hill 394M>Yuen Tau Shan>
Ling Dao Monastery>San Sang San Tsuen.

Meet/Place:  Customer services centre  of  Tuen Mun MTR @10:30 am
  • We'll take the taxi from the MTR station to Tsing Shan Monastery and hike the steep steps up to the Castle Peak(583M). Then we turn north direction and head down towards Leung King Au which is a possible early exit. After the Au, we will head further north to overcome the other two Shan-Hill 394 M and Yeun Tau Shan(375M). The walk will end near the Ling Dao Monastery.

  • The walk to the Castle Peak area would be very challenging as it's easy to get lost or spend a lot of time searching for the right direction as it is very gravelly and a lot of fake trails rooting out due to the heavy erosion from the rainy season. Beside the slippery trails, this area is also very exposed and so you must bring enough sun block for protection.  Yes, I never done the whole trail  before, so it's possible there will be some very difficult spots.

Please remember to bring all the usual gear - lunch, sufficient water/drinks, snacks, a sun hat, sun block, a torch, mosquito spray, gloves, and rain gear if needed.
  • If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will still go on but we will hike on another part of Tuen Mun. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. Remember don't be late! The 10 minutes rule is in force.

1. Walk Report-Castle Peak to Yuen Tau Shan
Thirteen trampers attempted the hike of 29 Nov 2009. We started with a thousand steps up Castle Peak and were a bit disappointed with the scenery as all of the surrounding areas were covered with smog. Should it be a clear day, the panoramic view of the Tuen Mun, Shenzhen and Yuen Long areas would be spectacular. Among the barren top of Castle Peak, we found an interesting observatory / signal transmission station which was painted in dull green with splashes of earth yellow. It was, definitely, an improvement of the bare concrete version.

From Castle Peak we traversed through the bare ridges to Leung King Au, Hill 394 and Yeun Tau Shan. The ups and downs, though slight in magnitude, were not ease as the loose soil was slippery. We lost one member to Leung King Au and another after Yuen Tau Shan. The remaining 11 took a detour from Yuen Tau Shan and headed towards the base of the cross-border bridge that connects Lau Fau Shan with Shenzhen We finished the hike in good time at around 5:30 pm.

The Trampers' NEP Check

But wait. This does not mean that anyone can join us. You are eligible only if you pass the NEP check:

  • Support our “NO trace behind (except footprints)” policy. You are expected to carry all of your rubbish away, and you are not meant to pick flowers or bring any species away from the walk.
  • Check the boot rating of the walk, estimate your capability realistically, and ENSURE that you can finish the walk at a crisp pace.
  • Show up PUNCTUALLY (no later than 10 minutes after the meeting time) at the meeting point of the walk.

A recap of our boot system
Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system. Easy relaxed walking, usually along the flat or with a few low hills involved. Suitable for inexperienced hikers.
Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system.Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system. More challenging walk, and usually longer (4-5 hours) but still within the endurance and capability of most walkers. Would not involve hills as high as 500 metres.
Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system.Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system.Wonder what a boot is? See explanation of our boot system. Requires endurance and not suitable for walkers who have difficulties in high places. 3 boots maybe allocated to a walk because of its length and/or because it involves elevations over 500 metres and/or tough walking. Not recommended for novice hikers.
