All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

  3. You watch reruns of Chinese triad movies till 4 am on weekends
  4. You still keep buying hiking shoes
  5. You have read Into Thin Air three times in as many months
  6. You call your mother to discuss in minute detail the latest kitchen gadget you bought
  7. You go to Park N Shop in your hiking gear
  8. You keep staring at the distant summits from your swimming pool
  9. You take altitude & temperature readings every hour in your apartment
  10. You dream all day of Garlic  Bread at Stoep

This coming Sunday September 6, 2009 we will meet at Central Ferry Pier at 11.50 am and take the 12 noon ferry to Mui Wo. Please note revised meeting time. We do a really easy 7 to 10 k slow paced walk on the South Lantau Trail. After that we go to Cheung Sha Beach and swim for a while before dinner at the Stoep.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will still go ahead. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. And remember -- don't be late! The ten minute waiting rule applies.

Remember to bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water at least three litres, swimming gear, good shoes, sun block and a hat. Also, bring some lunch.

1. Hike report
Eleven trampers turned up at Central ferry pier on a really hot and sunny day. It was great to be back in the hills and meet with some old trampers. We started off on a slight uphill trail towards Sunset peak and then turned off from Nam Shan to the South Lantau Trail. The first bit was all shaded and we found a really nice spot by the stream for a longish lunch. We got some nice views of Lantau and also could see Hong Kong Island in the distance. Around 4 pm we reached the saddle before Lantau Peak and decided that we deserved a long swim. Cheung Sha seems to be getting quite popular with a lot of beachgoers and after an hour of waddling in the water we were ravenously hungry. We introduced the new trampers to the wonders of Stoep and we had our usual small meal with just a few beers. No really very small meak and just a small barrel of beer.
