All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

Description:

The temperature rose beyond 30 in the last couple of days and record of hikers suffered heat stroke is start building up.  So this Sunday, 24 May 09, we will do a "warm" up hike to get better prepared for the hot summer days.

We will meet at 11:00am, at Wan Chai MTR Station (Island line) Hang Seng Mini Bank (alternative meeting time/place: 11:30am at Wong Nei Chung Reservoir).   We will share taxi from the Station to Wong Nei Chung Reservoir to start our walk.  We will hike through Violet Hill Path, Repulse Bay Pass to Upper section (Sheung Tam) of the Tai Tam Reservoir.  We will be about to enjoy a panoramic view of Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay or even Lamma Island if the weather is fine.  Besides, this part should be easy enough for an average hiker.  We will switch to stream trekking as from Sheung Tam and will climb through the Sheung Tam Stream and the Butt Tai Stream (that locate between the middle and the upper Tai Tam Reservoir) up to the valley of Mount Parker.  Though the streams are not quite difficult, there are still a few climbing ups and downs and that chances of getting your shoes wet cannot be ignored.

Depending on the weather and the impulse of our leaders, we may change our route anytime anywhere along the trek.  Tentatively, we will end our hike at Quarry Bay or extend it to Braemar Hill.

Please remember to bring all the usual gear - lunch, sufficient water/drinks, snacks, a sun hat, sun block, a torch, mosquito spray, gloves, and rain gear if needed.  Appropriate hiking shirts, trousers and boots/shoes are a must.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk may still go on but we will hike on another part of the Tai Tam area.  If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517.  Remember don't be late!  The 10 minutes rule is in force.

Disclaimer
People join this walk at their own risks. The leader(s) is/are not to be held responsible in any way for any injury or death incurred or any loss or damage to personal property caused due to whatever causes including, but not limited to, negligence, neglect, errors of judgment and inadequate orientation skills on the part of the leader(s). The fact that you show up at the time and place on the day to join the walk is an implication that you have agreed to and accepted unconditionally this disclaimer.

Safety precautions
Please note that all participants of the walks organized by the Hong Kong Trampers do so at their own risk and no responsibility whatsoever is taken for any inaccuracies in the posted itineraries.  We are not a professional group, but only a group of friends who meet to do this for pleasure and exercise.  We are also a democratic group and sometimes change the itinerary before or during the course of a walk for any number of reasons, so please be prepared for possible changes if you want to join us.

The itineraries we post are only an idea of what we like to do, and we often modify our plans during the walk.  Before you join a walk, please read this information on this website (including the information on boot ratings) carefully, and consider the information given on that particular walk to see if the planned itinerary matches your ability and fitness.

If in doubt, it is better to be cautious than to join a walk that may be too difficult for you.  If the walk is advertised as strenuous, if the weather is hot or if you feel unwell or unfit to perform the walk, consider not joining the group.  Unless otherwise specifically stated in a walk itinerary, you should expect that there will be no "early exit" routes on a walk and that you will need to complete the entire walk if you join.  Most walks run until late afternoon or early evening, so if you have other commitments during the day, please consider not joining that walk.  Once you join the group, if you feel it necessary to leave the group before the walk is finished, always inform the other group member beforehand or phone the hotline under 8209 0517 and enquire about an escape route to the nearest public transport, if this is possible at all.

Participants should always carry plenty of water, particularly during the hotter months of the hiking season, from May to October.  During the winter months, you should bring a minimum of one and a half liters of water, and double that amount during the hotter months.
