All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

  • Hiking on Apr 19 ,2009-Sai Wan Pavillon to Ko Lau Wan via Tai Mun Shan
  • Leader: Alex & Ringo

Hiking route:  Sai Wan pavilion> Lo Tei Tun> Chui Tung Au> Sai Wan > Tai Mun Shan> Tai Long Au> Hill 222> Tan Ka Wan> Ko Lau Wan> Wong Shek Pier

    Distance: 11 KM
    Duration: 6 Hours
    Elevation: 0 -370 M
Level of difficulty: near 3 boosts

Description:
The trampers had scaled the Sharp Peak so many times that one of them had practically use it as an outdoor reading room and read his favorite newspapers/magazines at the top of the Peak nearly every weekend.  He even contemplates setting up a booth there to collate entrance fee from "visitors"...

To avoid possibility of trespassing, we will approach the Peak from a different route via Tai Mun Shan [Chinese equivalent of Big Mosquito Hill] and take a detour round the base of the Peak to Ko Lau Wan through Tan Ka Wan. If the weather is clear, you may have an unobstructed view of the Wong Mau Chau, Grass Island, and Tai Tan Hoi.

This walk itself is not too difficult except the trail that ascends from Sai Wan to Tai Mun Shan will be uncertain though there is clearly a trail marked on the official map, where Ringo and I never did before.  However, as Mr Chu Wai Tak, a well-known hiker and artist wrote in his book that the view from Tai Mun Shan towards Ham Tin Wan was ranked No. 1 Scenery in HK.  This part of the trail may be filled with veins and brushes [and big mosquitoes...].  An early exit is possible after we reach Tai Long Au.

Trampers who want to appraise the Sharp Peak from a different angle, please assemble at 10:30am at the Diamond Hill MTR Exit C [alternate meeting time/place: 11:30 am Pak Tam Chung Bus Terminal] this Sunday, 19 April 2009. We will take bus No. 96 from Diamond Hill to Pak Tam Chung then share taxi to Sai Wan pavilion to start our walk.

Please remember to bring all the usual gear - lunch, drinks, snacks, a sun hat, sun block, a torch, mosquito spray, gloves, and rain gear if needed.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will still go on but we will hike on another part of Sai Kung.  If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517.    Remember don't be late!  The 10 minutes rule is in force.
