All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

I have got wind that the rhododendron on Ma On Shan are now in full bloom, and so this Sunday, 22nd, March, 2009 we'll climb this mountain in the eastern part of Hong Kong to indulge in the colours of the flora.  We'll meet at Exit C inside the Heng On MTR Station (Ma On Shan Line) at 1030 a.m. to get ready for the climb.

Ma On Shan is 702m above sea level.  We'll tackle it from its west, via Tiu Shau Ngam (588m) and the Hunch Backs (677m)

After we have reached the summit of Ma On Shan, we'll desend to Pyramid Hill, but before that, we'll decide whether we'll walk to Shui Long Wo to round off the hike, or walk further from Pyramid Hill to Sai Kung or to Tai Shui Hang via Luk Chau Shan.

Please note that the climb up Ma On Shan this time is to appreciate rhododendron, and so we'll walk slowly to allow enough time to appreciate the flora.  Mountain runners should give it a second thought whether to join this walk or not.

PLEASE READ MY NOTES AND DISCLAIMER BELOW VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN THIS WALK.

It is worthwhile to do some background research into rhododendron before you come this Sunday, and sharing your knowledge about this particular flora species will just add fun to the walk.

Please note that Ma On Shan is very exposed and you should bring enough protection gear from the sun.

Bring all the usual things, a lunch, enough water, a torch, sun block, mos spray and if weather looks dodgy, rain gear.

If it is raining hard or thunderstorms are threatening, the walk might be cancelled. If in doubt, call the trampers hotline 8209-0517 in the morning.

Note:-  (1) Please note that this walk and any other walks organised by me may finish late due to a host of different reasons.  The duration given on top of this walk proposal is only a rough estimate.  We may have to walk longer than the estimated time and so there is a possibility that we'll walk in the dark (i.e. after sunset).  It is prudent that you bring a small torch with you to this walk.

         (2) The following people should not join this walk:-

                     (a) those who do not want to take any/little risk in outdoor activities e.g. being lost and stranded in the mountains,

                    (b) those who would grumble about things that do not turn out the way they want them to.

Disclaimer:- People join this walk and any other walks organised by me at their own risks.  I shall not be held responsible in any way for any injury or death incurred or any loss or damage to personal property caused due to whatever causes including, but not limited to, negligence, neglect, errors of judgement and inadequate orientation skills on my part.  The fact that you show up at the time and place on the day to join the walk is an implication that you have agreed to and accepted unconditionally this disclaimer.

Ringo.
