All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

The doctor has given me strict instructions not to hike. I assured him that will follow his instruction to the letter and definitely not hike. I opened the Tramper dictionary and looked up the word "hike"

1.

to walk or march a great distance, esp. through rural areas, for pleasure, exercise, military training, or the like.

So this weekend we have to ensure none of the above criteria are met.

Therefore this coming Sunday, we will go for a "18 km stroll" No really it's a just a short and gentle stroll. In my opinion, its probably the most beautiful part of Lantau and be rest assured this part of Lantau has absolutely nothing to do with hiking. Look at it this way, 18 km is  not a great distance, there are no rural areas in Hong Kong, we don't get any pleasure whatsoever we do this for pain and beer, we are not connected with the PLA or the like

We will meet outside the turnstiles at Tung Chung Mtr  at 11.00 AM and then take the bus to the starting point.  The first part we just have to shut our eyes and walk for one hour on concrete which is unfortunately unavoidable. After that the trail is gorgeous right up to Tai O.

Stoep, Stoep, Stoep, Stoep, Stoep, Stoep, Stoep(Blame it on the doctor's pills)

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the stroll will not be cancelled. If in doubt on the morning of the stroll, call 8209-0517. The ten minute waiting rule applies and remember not to be late!

Bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water, good shoes, a torch and a hat. Also, bring some lunch for along the way.

3. Stroll report
Fifteen trampers kept looking hungrily in the direction of the kitchen and the restaurant decided that they better serve the food quickly. To kick our appetites into high gear we got four large loaves of piping hot garlic bread with melted butter. Together with the bread we got several bowls of Hummus and Tapenade that were just perfect accompaniments. Barely had we begun eating when they served platters of lamb chops succulently barbecued with creamy potatoes. The key to the potatoes from being just merely ordinary to becoming heavenly is a dash of crushed pepper. This was followed by sizzling platters of Chicken that were stuffed with lemons and just a tiny sprinkling of Oregano. To the uninitiated the dish Bobote raises eyebrows but for us it usually the highlight of the evening. Bobote is basically mince cooked in traditional African spices wrapped in an omelet and is accompanied by light yellow rice with raisins. Now I usually don’t say good things about vegetables but the grilled pumpkins are to die for and the spinach with pine nuts was also not bad. Somewhere on the horizon there was also some salad to waste the Tramper stomach space. It is needless to say that with all Tramper meals several barrels of beer must be consumed.
Satiated by the excellent meal we turned our attention to take care of our secondary stomach that was craving for dessert. Now the newbies asked for the dessert menu and the elders knowingly shook their heads & convinced everyone to tipsy tarts with vanilla ice cream washed down with pots of fresh coffee.
Earlier in the day there were some hills, the sky was blue, twenty three trampers strolled …. whatever

7. First time
Hi. First time contacting.

I am interesting in joining the group hikes in HK to enjoy the place I've lived for 10 years but so little I've explored. I've done only few hikes in my life but the biggest one was in Himalaya for 7 days. I'm a slow walker and can't say I am fit but I think I can manage middle class hikes.

Is this some kind of a "club" or more open to all and people join change all the time and in the big group?

Thanks! :)
