| Hiking on Aug 10,2008 Shing Mun Reservior to Ng Tung Chai Falls |
After the 'flat' hike last week in Cheung Chau, it may be tempting to scale the highest mountain in HK (viz Tai Mo Shan). Nevertheless, with a view of taking full advantage of the generous rainfall in the recent months, we will stop the relentless climb after reaching the pavilion and take a detour to visit the Ng Tung Chai waterfall area. Trampers who aimed high (but not that high) may join this three-booter this coming Sunday. We'll meet at 11:00 am at the Customer Services Center inside Tsuen Wan MTR station (note that there are two customer services centers inside the station. We'll meet at the onenear the Mrs Field Cookies and 7-Eleven convenient shop). We will take taxi to the main dam of the Shing Mun Reservior. From there we will walk via Tiger Jumping Path to the pavilion near the top of Tai Mo Shan. Then we will trek downward to Ng Tung Chai waterfall area. There are four spectacular waterfalls, Hair Fall, Long Fall, Middle Fall and the Lower Fall, so there will be an opportunity for a swim. Afterwards, we will walk to Ng Tung Chai Village and end our walk at Tai Po. Though most of the trek is shaded, there are still some exposed part. With the forecasted high temperature and occasional shower you are advised to carry at least two litres of water, wear quick dry clothes, proper foot gear (for some of the path may be slippery) and hat gear. Do carry some sweets or salty snacks or some chocolate as well. You may also wish to store up your reserve and drink plenty of water in the morning before starting the hike. If it is raining or threatening to rain, the walk will still go ahead but we will hike on another part of the Tai Mo Shan . If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517.
