All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

I got out of office during lunch and it was so hot that some chunks of me melted and fell on the pavement. Well, this Sunday we will have a picnic of sorts. We have not been to Cheung Chau for quite a few years now so we will spend the entire day exploring this island. The plan is that there is no plan so pl expect anything.

We will meet at 10.45 am outside Central ferry pier and take the 11 am ferry to Cheung Chau. They usually don't wait for the Trampers so please be on time. The hike around the island by my reckoning is just 6 to 10 km. Last time I was there it was just concrete but some nice views. Maybe the government has smashed the concrete and put a mud trail there then may be not. There is a nice pirates cove somewhere on the island so hope we can find it. We also will get some opportunity to swim - it will be just a lazy day out. We will walk a bit, stand and stare a bit.

Please carry a light lunch and a couple of litres of water. After a swim we might stop someplace for a rest and some ice cream.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will be cancelled. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. And remember -- don't be late!

Remember to bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water, good shoes, sun block and a hat.

1. Another great day out
Thanks again, it was a very pleasant day out on Cheung Chau. The weather was hot but clear and no rain in sight. I'm already looking forward to my next weekend in Hong Kong.

Cheers,

Brett

2. Hike report
Twenty two trampers took the 11 am ferry to Cheung Chau. We headeded off at about 11.30 from the pier towards the main beach. There was a gentle breeze blowing in from the sea and it was quite tempting to just jump into the ocean and lie there for the remainder of the day. We resisted this temptation and took the concrete path heading around the island. A lot of newbies joined the walk quite unaware that when we say one boot we love trying going off the main route. We made a lot of detours with a couple of short scrambles over some rocks.
We found a nice rocky ledge where we stopped for an early lunch and enjoyed clear views of Lamma & Hong Kong island. Quite a few decided that they had enough for the day and went off in various unknown directions. The main troupe again headed off in no particular direction trying out different trails. We walked past several abandoned houses, hidden caves, holiday resorts for tired hong kong executives and some nice shaded pavilions where we took longish breaks to get some respite from the sun.
The pirates cave turned out to be good fun. It was pitch dark and the torches came in handy. We walked along the coast and watched the start of a Dragon Boat race. As we were walking along there was a Carlsberg staff that handed us free glasses of beer – it was all part of the arrangement (Must mention here that the glasses were empty in eight metres).
We took some side alleys to the beach for a refreshing swim. We headed back to the pier for the mandatory ice cream. A few trampers headed off for dinner. Some of us took the slow ferry back and sat out on the open deck at the back. The deck is probably one of the best places to be in Hong Kong on a pleasant Sunday evening.
