| Walk on July 27: Luk Keng and Nam Chung |
The hot weather warning is up so we do a two booter hike this Sunday. We missed out on the Nam Chung pools a couple of weeks ago so we go there from another route. The plan is to walk the stone trail to Luk Keng and after that head to Nam Chung. There is definitely an opportunity for a swim. This walk is still quite long with a long uphill and there might be a possibility that we climb from the side of a stream. We will meet outside the turnstiles near the ticket windows close to the taxi stand at 12 noon at Tai Po Market KCR and then take minibus to Tai Mei Tuk. Please note the revised meeting time. From Tai Mei Tuk, we walk on the stone trail to Luk Keng which is quite shaded. From there its a clear trail going up to the Nam Chung Pools. We may choose to walk along the stream instead of the normal path so please be prepared for stream walking. We will definitely have an opportunity for a swim. After that we have a couple of possibilities for an exit and one of them is to continue up to Ping Fung Shan and exit to Hok Tau reservoir or someplace completely else. We will decide on the day which route we finally take but there is an opportunity for an early exit. We will end the hike at our usual Thai food restaurant in Tai Mei Tuk. Please carry at least three litres of water/pocari, wear light coloured cotton clothes and a hat for proper protection from the sun. Do carry sweets or salty snacks or some chocolate. Suggest also to drink plenty of water in the morning before starting the hike. If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will not be cancelled. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. The ten minute waiting rule applies and remember not to be late! Bring all the usual gear, in particular at least three litres of water, rain gear or an umbrella, wear good shoes, a torch and a hat. Definitely carry sun block for protection from the rain. Also, bring some lunch and snacks for along the way. Disclaimer:- People join this walk at their own risks.
