All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

Last year just around this time we did a really mad hike. It was a really hot day and it was extremely exhausting, so much so that some trampers were already proposing to send out a contract on my name. We often talk about this hike or rather a lot of trampers often curse me about this hike so I say what the hell lets do it again.  So this weekend, we will explore the Nam Chung Pools area. There are lots of rock pools there so we will have a couple of nice opportunities for swimming.

We will meet at Tai Po Market KCR just near the ticket windows at 11.00 AM and share taxis to the start of the walk. The beginning of the walk is a short but steep climb up Cloudy Hill. From there we will continue on the Wilson Trail towards the Pat Sing Leng range but before we reach the main hills we will take the turn off for the Nam Chung area. We will sweat our way to the stream and it is an extremely tough hike especially if it is hot.

An umbrella is very handy to protect you from the sun. Come prepared for a very hard day out.

Please note in case of heavy rain we may choose to hike on another route.

Don't forget those swimmers. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. And remember -- don't be late! The usual ten minute waiting rule applies.

Remember to bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water, torch, good shoes, lunch, rain gear, change of clothes and a hat.

1. Hike report
Sixteen trampers turned up at Tai Po with a lot of new faces. There were a couple of people late and after some frantic phone calls they finally managed to catch up with us. The taxi drivers refused to drop us to Sha Lo Tung so we started off hiking at the bottom of the road. We huffed and puffed our way up Cloudy Hill and stopped for a quick lunch. The sky looked quite menacing and sure enough within a few minutes it started raining.
At the pavilion, I completely missed the turn off to Hok Tau reservoir and we just continued on a concrete path right up to Tai Po road. Unfortunately the trail came to an abrupt end close to Fanling Highway. What with the rain coming down in buckets the regular trampers read the signs and made a quiet exit leaving me with all the newbies who had no clue that I had no clue where we were. After a lot of twists and turns (plus dirtly looks) Peter came to my rescue and suggested we just take taxis and go to Tai Po Kau. This we did and hiked on the yellow trail and Peter showed us a beautiful path going down to Fo Tan. We finished just after five PM and Peter took us to a very nice dai pai dong in the vicinity where nine of us ended the day with the usual beer and food.
Thanks a lot to Peter for saving the day!!
