All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

Walk on June 29: Mui wo to Mui Wo

Written by Vivek,

Distance Duration* Elevation Level of Difficulty
18 kilometres 6 hours 0 to 400metres

We will do a long walk this coming Sunday, June 29.  Despite the distance, it is still very manageable as nothing really over 500 metres, thus a two booter.  Basically, we will walk from Mui Wo ferry pier in a somewhat circuitous route back to Mui Wo.

We will meet outside the Central Ferry Pier at 10.50 AM and catch the 11 am ferry to Mui Wo. The ten minute rule doesn't apply as we will take this ferry at the scheduled departure time.

This walk is about 18 kilometres and has a few good ascents. At the beginning, the trail is a relatively flat walk hugging the coast with some nice villages. Then we head inland and pass a detention centre where we might force some of the unruly trampers to sign up. Then on towards Pui O with a few long ascents in between.  After Pui O we will take a trail back to Mui Wo that we have not done as yet.

Do carry loads of water as it might be really hot and the trail is quite exposed. There is also quite a high chance of rain so pl carry an umbrella or a rain jacket. If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will not be cancelled. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. And remember -- don't be late!

Remember to bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water, good shoes and a hat. Also, bring some lunch for along the way.

1. Walk report
Five trampers turned up at the ferry pier inspite of the massive thunderstorm in the morning. During the ferry ride to Mui Wo 8.207 million gallons of water had fallen on us. By the time we reached the pier it had stopped raining, the air seemed really clean and fresh. We kicked off the hike around the peninsula. A short break for lunch around 1.30 pm and we were off again. This time we went all the way around the coast so it added a couple of hours to the normal hike. By the time we reached the summit of Lo Yan Shan it was almost five. We sat there for quite some time just enjoying the nice view and the gentle breeze. We did not have even a single drop of rain and after the massive deluge in the morning nobody could have forecasted this. A short descent followed by a shorter taxi ride brought us back again to Mui wo where we had an excellent Turkish meal. Vince and I decided that just dinner was not quite enough on such a beautiful day of hiking so we stopped at Haagen Dazs for a small double scoop of Belgian chocolate with choco chips in a warm waffle cone.
