All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

From Central when you look across the harbour, sometimes on a clear day you can see  a nice range of hills. On the Eastern end, Kowloon Peak stands quite majestic and you wonder if there is way up from the ridge on the Eastern Face. Well we found one....

We will meet outside the turnstiles near Exit B at Choi Hung MTR at 11.00 AM and take a short taxi ride to the start of the walk. The first few minutes are on concrete but after that is a very steep unmarked path ascending to the summit at 602 metres. It is quite a bushwhack so pl come prepared. We continue on the ridge from there to Middle Hill and onwards with options of doing Lion Rock etc. Do expect a long and tough day out. The plan is to end in Kowloon somewhere and expect to eat a nice meal at a secret restaurant.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will go on but maybe on an alternative hike as this route is not doable. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. The ten minute waiting rule applies and remember not to be late!

Bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water, good shoes, a torch and a hat. Also, bring some lunch for along the way.

1. The Crazy Tramper show continues...
There are a lot of armchair hikers out there who closely follow our weekly adventures. These intrepid “armchair hikers” have asked me to do research on the Hong Kong typhoon.

After a lot of scientific experiments and studying reams of empirical data I have made the following conclusions and stray thoughts:

Like for instance all typhoons originate in the South China sea on Tuesdays
Like by late tues afternoons all offices are buzzing with excitement, there are huge smiles on normally impassive faces
Like its amazing, the weather website receives 132.479 million hits per hour
Like on Wednesday morning everyone is planning what they are going to do on their day off and which new bar will be open with Buy 1 Get 1 free deals
Like on thursday everyone stares excitedly at the window looking frequently heavenwards for the first sign of rain
Like it is hard to believe that Friday late evening when everyone is doing their compulsory rounds of inspection at the various bars in Wanchai and Central, it starts raining
Like strangely enough Sat morning everyone crawls home to find the old lady in the upstairs flat is pouring buckets of water on your window which by the way you have forgotten to shut
Like late Sat evening you frantically call everyone you know and cancel all your Sunday hiking plans and get ready for a big meal in the afternoon

And this final stray thought (all my own work)

Like uncannily on Sunday morning sharp at 8.23 am, this typhoon misses Hkg by few hundred kilometres, the air is bone dry & clean and you are stuck in an airconditioned restaurant supposedly watching the rain on the best hiking day of the year.
And so it happened that 20 wise trampers turned up at the Choi Hung MTR station for Fei Kno Shan. Now if you look at the map there is no trail marked but such minuscule details do not deter the hardy tramper. We walked quickly to the base of the hill and then spent the next one hour thrashing our way up through thorns and thick brush up Fei No Shan. We waited for a short while for the others to catch up and then continued on the ridge to Middle Hill where we broke for lunch. There was a nice wind blowing and the temperature was quite reasonable so we made pretty good time to reach Shatin pass on an alternate trail that Alex showed us.
Some people left at this point but most continued to lion Rock and then to Beacon hill. It was about six by now and there were lot of curses and groans directed at the hike leader who at this point declared that this is “Mission Accomplished”
A nice hidden bamboo trail brought us to the Shing Mun reservoir where we got into taxis to head off to the MTR. Six trampers had an excellent dinner at a tiny Nepali curry house that Charlie had shown me. The Crazy Tramper Show continues…
