All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

We did this hike a few months ago and a lot of people asked us why there were no real monkeys on the trail. Actually we are the monkeys as this is a steep ascent up the first hill on Pat Sing Leng with a short rock scramble which is quite manageable.

We will meet outside the turnstiles near the ticket windows at Tai Po KCR at 11.00 AM and then take minibus to the starting point.  We will do a steep path up Pat Sin Leng and the whole day spent traversing the ridge. This is a long three boot hike and the exit is not decided so we can end up anywhere. From this place called  "anywhere" of course we will find our way to our favourite Thai restaurant in Tai Mei Tuk.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will go on but maybe on an alternative route. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. The ten minute waiting rule applies and remember not to be late!

Bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water, good shoes, a torch and a hat. Also, bring some lunch for along the way.

1. Walk report
Eleven trampers turned up for the walk at Tai Po KCR undeterred by the rain and after waiting for a few extra minutes we took the minibus to Tai Mei Tuk. By the time we reached the start of the trail it had stopped raining so we decided that we should go ahead with the original plan of hiking up the monkey trail. The trail was really gorgeous and the cool weather was quite refreshing. We made very good time and we were up on the summit of first hill in less than an hour. We continued tramping on till the fifth hill where we broke for lunch.
It was early afternoon and the hills were shrouded under mist. We could barely see more than a dozen feet and Roger commented that one should really know their way in this weather – “of course we know the way” came our reply “we have done this like a zillion times.” Yea right!!!
From the ridge we started descending and it was very steep, wet and quite slippery. An hour or so later we stood on some vague summit and the clouds cleared a little bit. We could see the entire Pat Sin Leng range, it was an awesome sight except for one tiny factor – we should have been on top of it. As we waited for the others to catch up, the wind picked up and cleared up the air to give us a beautiful view of all the peaks around us.
We continued hiking in the general direction of “anywhere” (Pl read the hike proposal once again; this was all part of the Master Plan). Two hours of bushwhacking brought us back to the abandoned village of Sha Lo Tung where four of us got into a taxi and headed off to Tai Mei Tuk for our free ice cream.
