All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

Walk on Mar 16: Have you been Tramperised?

I know your first reaction is that Tramperised is not a word!! You just have to stare very hard at the dictionary and trust me this word will appear. It is a good word this and you just need to recognize the signs. So what is it really to be Tramperised ..... well read on

Ten Signs that you have been Tramperised:

  1. Every Monday morning you stare longingly at the hills from your office window while your boss gives you dirty glares
  2. You carefully check your backpack to ensure you have Emergency Money for beers
  3. After a very tough uphill hike on Saturday night in LKF, you find yourself somehow dragging your backside this Sunday morning March 16 at 10.51 am to catch the ferry to Mui wo from the Central ferry pier
  4. From the Mui wo ferry pier you walk enthusiastically in the general direction of Sunset peak (Pak Kung Au)which is exactly 18,275.684994 metres away
  5. You ensure that you are carrying the Sai Kung map so that you are not lost
  6. You bring a set of Vernier Calipers to argue with the hike leader on the height attained for the day is 495.276874 metres
  7. You check the Tramper website every half hour for the latest updates and changes that might critically affect your life
  8. You realize that your cooking skills are restricted to boiling water so all you can carry for lunch is pasta
  9. At every step there is just one philosophical deep truth that keeps you going - Dinner at The Stoep
  10. And this final sign that you have been completely Tramperised (Men pl ignore):

You have an irresistible urge to hug the hike leader for doing such a terrific job

Bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water, good shoes, a torch and a hat. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517.

2. more the merrier
I think Liza was referring to a simple concept known as "more the merrier". So her comments on alienation and division should NOT be taken literally.

See you guys Sunday!

3. Two is better than one
I find that my proposal of an alternative hike may be interpreted as contributing, at least partly, to "alienate each other" and "create division" among the Trampers! The eighth deadly sin! So that is why although there are other more interesting things to do, such as hanging the eyes on rhododendron, I feel obliged to write again, not just for myself, but also for those who have organized alternative walks in the past and those prospective organizers in future!

My aspiration, as I stated in my reply to say thanks to Joyce's leading on 9 March 2008, is "... the continuation of a multiplicity of hikes for the multitude of preferences of the trampers".

I find myself to be in differing views with Liz! This, in itself, is totally unimportant. My only sincere hope is that Liz's message would not deter anyone with the same aspiration as mine for multifarious hikes from organizing alternative hikes in the days to come.

Furthermore, I am not aware of any rule, either explicit or implicit or latent, that there should be only one group that would represent the HKtrampers every week. I must confess that I am not good in making new rules, and equally bad at observing newly created ones!

In fact, the trampers would make their own rational choice as to which hike to join! We need not worry! We need not bother! And certainly we need not interfere!!

My two cents!

5. Hey Guys, where are we heading?
There should only one group who will represent the HKTrampers every week.I have been with you for almost a year and i enjoyed the hikes either it's 1,2,or 3 booter.May I suggest that the Elders would take turns in leading the hike every sunday, and the only way we can do this is to talk and communicate openly,so as not to alienate each other and create division amongst the Trampers. The table is open for peace talks!:-)
