All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

HongKong Island seems not quiet popular with the Trampers and is rarely visited in the last year.Main reason is the presence of concrete on the trails.Actually, there are few beautiful natural trails around the Island, and it is up to us to find out. This Sunday, 02 March 2008,we will explore the Eastern part of HK Island, which boast a great view of the Eastern urban jungle and some part of Kowloon,Dragon's Back and the outer seas.We will stick to the natural trail as much as we can and we will surely do some serious bush-whacking,please come prepared for this.

We will meet at 11am at Exit C of Tai Koo MTR Station.Starting at Wilson Trail Stage 2, we will head up to 507m Mt Parker. From there we will find our way down to Tai Tam Road and continue to Dragon's Back and will finish the walk at Shek O.

This is a tough three boot walk and suggest to wear long pants.

Please bring the usual hiking essentials, snacks, packed lunch and plenty of water.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will be cancelled. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. The ten minute waiting rules applies and remember not to be late!

2. let the photos tell it's story ...
Hi All,

For those who missed this hike (02 March 2008 / Mt.Parker & Dragon's Back) Please go to our 2008 Photo Album - Walk on 02 March 2008,and look at our sweaty but smiling faces, obviously everyone who finished this hike had a fun and rewarding day out on the hills down to the beach, even 8-years old Balaram who insist to lead all the way down Tai Tam Road will agree with me. :-)

3. Reply to Prof,
I am sorry if you were disappointed by today's walk with the Trampers, and that the way it was lead was not safe and did not meet your standard.

We are all aware about the danger and the accident that might happen to us on the trails.Today's walk rated 3 booter - requires endurance and not suitable for walkers who have difficulties in high places / or tough walking and not recommended for novice hikers. Also we posted our hotline number and a disclaimer in our hike proposal.

With such a big group of 31 people like today,I must admit it was difficult for me to lead the front and stay at the back.

You are welcome to join again if someone will volunteer to lead a SLOW 1 BOOT walk, where people can have plenty of time for photos and enjoy the scenery.

Best Regards,
Liza

4. I am disappointed
AS a amateur hiker here in HK , I am disappointed in yday's walk to Mt. Parker .. It is one of the most unorganized and " dangerous" hike I ever seen given the terrain and slope we climbed yday .

1.No one at the end of the group , the leader just keep going disregard the people at the end . No pre trip plan is briefed and nor the leader phone number given .

2. There is abso;utely no need to " go straight" in one breath from Tai Koo to the summit .. and totally given no time for break for people to take picture or meet each other ..or even to take a look at the scenery and know more about the geog of HK , what a pity. I learned nothing from the trip just rush rush and move move..( but for what ? )

3. Danger : there are cliff along the climb and possibility people can twist their angle and fell ..even young guys can get cardiac arrest in hot and demanding exercise ... and there is no one to watch each other or those who lag behind .. it is unthinkable if anything happened .. or someone fell over a cliff .. !! In fact , we ran into police and ambulance on our way down from the top ( we decided to give up the climb with you guys half way so we can take some pictures and enjoy the scenery ) , we learned that there was a guy ( a foreigner like yourself who dont speak the local language ) fell off a cliff and badly hurt , and ambulance and rope evacuation has to be called in ..so danger situation can happen anytime to anyone .. precaution must be taken to ensure it wont.

I see you need to really think of the above in your next trip .. cus all it takes is one accident and you will regret for the rest of your life ..and beleive me I have seen it happend last year when one guy stepped off a cliif and fell to his death ( heli has to call in but only to pick up his corpse ..)

Need to be more organized and team like ..beware of danger and watch out for each other .. enjoy a good outing and meet interesting folks are the aim . Safety is No.1

regards,

Prof

5. Walk Report
31 Trampers, mostly new faces, participated in today's walk. Also saw the comeback of the youngest Tramper,8 years old Balaram. The weather was sunny and dry,by the time we started to head up Mt.Parker,3 decided to leave. The rest of the group took the challenge of conquering Mt.Parker the hard way..''the Trampers way''!!!.It was a steep ascent and the trail was narrow,we clawed our way up non-stop and by 12:45pm hit Mt.Parker road.We had an early lunch, and after a short break, was on our way again. In just few minutes we reached the 532m summit of Mt.Parker.After the obligatory group photo,we braced ourselves for a serious bush-whacking on the way down Tai Tam road. From there,we continued the second leg of the hike, this time the gentle trail of Dragon's Back.We made a pretty good time and the last tramper reached Shek O road by 3:20pm.We did the whole walk in only 4 hours and it was a record for finishing the whole walk early.18 Trampers head down to Shek O,kill the time and consumed few cans of beer and softdrinks by the beach. After a long while,14 went to Chinese/Thai Restaurant for a nice dinner.
Thank you everyone for your cooperation,it was another great day out with the HKTrampers!
