All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

Route Twisk to Shing Mun Reservoir

Written by Brian,

I have been asked to suggest an intermediate walk for tomorrow, given the uncertain weather. First, a health warning: there is a strong likelihood that I will not be able to join this walk, so if you want to do it, make sure you bring your own map and be prepared to find your own way.

The meeting place will be at the east end (Luk Yeung Galleria side) of Tsuen Wan MTR station outside the exit turnstiles at 11 am. From there, the group will take the bus up Route Twisk past Kwong Pan Tin Tsuen, past the Outdoor Recreation Centre to the first information post marked on the Country Parks map. From here, there is a fairly level family walk running east from Route Twisk to Shing Mun Reservoir. This is an easy stretch of walk. From Shing Mun Reservoir, there are 3 options:

1. A northerly route over Needle Hill and Grassy Hill ending at Tai Po. This is the longest route and has some reasonably steep sections.

2. A southerly route over Smugglers' Ridge and then over Kam Shan Country Park ending at Tai Po Road. This is an easier route than the first alternative with some ups and downs but nothing nearly as steep as Needle Hill.

3. A route falling in between the first two alternatives which goes over top of the Shing Mun Tunnel and comes out at Shing Mun Tunnel Road above Tai Wai. This is the shortest and easiest of the alternatives and is a dirt path that winds mostly downhill.

Or, if it is pissing down rain by the time the group reaches Shing Mun Reservoir, you can just hop on a mini bus to a local mall and do a mall walk.

This is either a reasonably easy two booter or a fairly brisk two booter, depending on which alternative is chosen to end the walk.

Remember to bring all the usual stuff including a map (unless you are coming with someone else who has a map) -- and no complaints!

Joyce's comment:

If Brian indeed cannot lead the walk, the Trampers' hotline will be forwarded to me tomorrow morning. Given the uncertain weather, please do check if the walk will go ahead. Weather permitting, we could venture out together on the route proposed by Brian.

Brian

I just learned from Brian that he definitely cannot join the walk tomorrow. That means I shall be womanning the hotline for tomorrow's walk.
Could I ask if someone could print a hard copy of tomorrow's itinerary and bring it to the walk? Appreciate if someone could post and confirm this.
