| Walk on Feb 3, 2008: Lantau Stages 5 & 6 |
We will do a nice walk in Lantau this coming Sunday, Feb 3, 2008. There are several ascents with gorgeous views of the South China Sea and not an ounce of concrete in the hills. What with the weather getting really cold and the maximum height for the day will be 490 metres so technically this will be a two booter as it fall ten metres short of being a three boot hike. Basically, we will walk from Tai O to Tung Chung Road. We will meet outside the turnstiles at Tung Chung MTR at 11.00 AM and take the bus to Tai O. This walk is about 15-16 kilometres and has a few good ascents. At the beginning, the trail is a relatively flat walk hugging the coast. Then we head inland and start hiking over the hills towards Man Cheung Po and further. Of course it is imperative that we end the hike at Cheung Sha beach for a nice dinner at Stoep. If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will still go on. The forecast is for heavy rain so get all your waterproof gear. If it is really coming down heavily expect changes in the proposed hike. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. And remember -- don't be late! The ten minute waiting rule applies. Remember to bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water, good shoes and a hat. Also, bring some lunch for along the way. Disclaimer:- People join this walk at their own risks. I shall not be held responsible in any way for any injury or death incurred or any loss or damage to personal property caused due to whatever causes including, but not limited to, negligence, neglect, errors of judgment and inadequate orientation skills on my part.
