All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

The cold weather warning is up so that means we need to do another long walk. Now if it was warm, we would have considered an easier walk but as it is cold we have been left with no choice. We will walk up Sharp Peak and then walk another 20 odd kilometers from there!

We'll meet at 10.30 am on Sunday, Jan 20, 2008 at the Diamond Hill MTR station outside the turnstiles near the Hollywood plaza exit. From there we shall take our Tramper bus to Section 2 of the Maclehose trail in Sai Kung.  From Section 2 we will do a very short and sharp detour up Sharp Peak and then coast along the peninsula to end the walk in Sai Wan. After Sharp Peak there are no hills as such and it is a very beautiful part of Hong Kong. The entire walk is about 22 kilometres so expect about five to six hours of tramping.

The descent from Sharp peak is not easy. Pl come prepared for cold weather also as the hike hugs the coast all the time.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will be cancelled. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. The ten minute waiting rule applies and remember not to be late!

Bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water at least two litres, good shoes, a torch and a hat. Also, bring some lunch for along the way.

Disclaimer:- People join this walk at their own risks.  I shall not be held responsible in any way for any injury or death incurred or any loss or damage to personal property caused due to whatever causes including, but not limited to, negligence, neglect, errors of judgment and inadequate orientation skills on my part.  The fact that you show up at the time and place on the day to join the walk is an implication that you have agreed to and accepted unconditionally this disclaimer.

1. Walk report
Twenty five trampers turned up to join this Sunday’s walk with a few new faces. It was just such a glorious day to be out in the hills, it is so rare nowadays to see blue skies in Hong Kong so it was just perfect to be outdoors. The temperature was pleasantly in the early twenties. We got off the bus at the end of Section 2 and hiked on the concrete right up to the turn off for Sharp peak. The hares took off and scrambled up the steep hill, reaching the summit just after 1 pm. It was a perfect setting for a nice lunch, in spite of the summit being crowded with other groups there was enough space for everyone. Whilst we ate the rest of the group caught up and after the mandatory group photo, we descended quickly to follow the trail towards the peninsula.
At one point there was a barely discernible trail going away from the peninsula, the group got split up here. We took this short detour and found our way to the end of the peninsula. Thomas was reminiscing about the time Karl had lead a hike to this point. It was about four pm by now and we walked very quickly on our way around the coast. At Tai Long Wan we caught up with the rest of the group and made our way to Ham Tin. Instead of going to Sai Wan Ho we took the final concrete section of Maclehose to end the hike back where we had started. Seven really hungry trampers made our way to our favourite pizza joint in Sai Kung Town for a huge meal ensued by a really interesting conversation on the vagaries of different languages.

2. You Go Girl!
Amanda - that is FANTASTIC! Good for you - but take care of yourself! BTW, I couldn't believe that I bumped into you way back in Oct on the Dragon Back Trail! I knew you'd do a great job!

Vivek - you leaders are sooooo accommodating! ;-)

Vivek - I've been missing in action lately - I hope to make it Sunday, but if I'm lagging behind, will you be willing to carry me?
