All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

Last week we could not quite make it to Stoep and since then am dreaming of spring chicken and tipsy tart and not to forget the garlic bread so we have to make our way there this Sunday. As promised this is going to be a belter and when you see the map it will make you wonder how it is possible to reach the Stoep from Discovery Bay. Well then just read on…..

We will meet outside the Discovery Bay Ferry Pier in Central to take the 9.30 am ferry  -  Please note the revised meeting time and do not be late. Those meeting us at DB guess we should be there around ten am. We will start walking from DB itself and immediately it is a long ascent up Tiger’s head. After that we have to find our way up Por Kai Shan then Pok To Yan. This is a very difficult steep route and we plan to hike on the ridge that  continues on to the summit of Lin Fa Shan. This is a very tough walk. Moreover have not been able to recce this hike so expect a lot of wrong turns and backtracking. The hike should take about 7 hours and is a very tough three boot walk.

You must carry a torch with spare batteries and wear proper hiking shoes.

The forecast is for a bit of rain so please carry some sort of rain gear. Pl carry snacks, lunch, three litres of water and some energy bars.

If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk may be cancelled. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. And remember -- don't be late!

1. Walk report
Fifteen trampers set off just after 10.00 am for a long day out in the hills. It is surprisingly humid for this time of the year but the temperature was just perfect for a long hike. After a five minute stop under some shade to wait for a thundershower to pass, we took the steep steps up the Tiger’s head. We were on the summit in just over an hour and got reasonably clear views of Lantau.
The trail is very beautiful from there but unfortunately the entire hill side was burnt out and we had soot on our pant legs. Liza commented that some of us looked like we had just got out of a kindergarten art class and all the kids had scribbled on our pants. Just before the descent into Man Pong village we had a quick lunch and took our group photo.
From the village we found our way up the trail that more or less runs parallel to the Tung Chung highway and it was pretty tough going uphill as the path was quite overgrown. The good bit was we did not get much concrete. We reached a junction where the trail heads in between Por Kai Shan and Poi To Yan towards Lin Fa Shan. As we still had a long way to go we decided to forego going up either of the summits. We hiked along the ridge for about an hour before a short turn off that led us to the summit of Lin Fa Shan. It was quite cold so we descended down to the Lantau Trail and continued towards Sunset Peak. Our legs were really weary by now and were tough on our knees to descend down the big steps. We reached the saddle in exactly seven hours and then ten trampers walked another hour to The Stoep to end a glorious day with an excellent meal.
This hike was really tough and we reckon its up there with The Three Summits hike. On Monday morning received confirmation from all those who finished that a new set of legs would be required to get through till Friday.

3. Details of less strenuous walk Jan 13
I propose we walk in the Lantau S Country Park.
We shall gather at 11 a.m. at Tung Chung MTR, at the exit facing the public square. From there we take a bus.
We start walking E from the Shek Pik dam, along the coast on the Lantau trail around Shek Mun Shan. Then we go N past Shui Hau, then W. At the Shek Pik picnic area we turn N and hike up Ngong Ping, where we could walk more, eat and drink, or take a ride back.
The first section of the trail is less visited by the Trampers; the second (walking up) section is engulfed in a lush and green valley.
The hike including lunch & breaks takes 5 hrs

4. Interested in a less demanding hike?
Thanks Vivek for the wonderful walk around Fan Lau last week. The combination of coastal scenery and pleasant weather made a memorable day.

I'd like to go on a hike this Sunday but do not feel I should try the 4-boot walk proposed. I wonder if there are others who would like to gather at 11 a.m. and do a less strenuous hike together?
