All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

This Sunday 09 December 2007,we will be tramping the Chi Ma Wan Peninsula in Lantau Island.

We will meet outside the Mui Wo ferry pier in Central at 10:50am and catch the 11:00am ferry to Mui Wo.The ten minutes waiting rule doesn't apply as we will take this ferry at the scheduled depature time.

This walk is about 15 kilometers, beginning with flat trail hugging the coastline, and then a few good ascents. It will be a long walk,so don't be fooled by the flat trails and 2 booter rating. And come prepared for some '' Indiana Jones''- like surprises from the ''humungus residents'' along the way.

We will end the hike at Pui O beach for nice refreshments and dinner before taking the bus to either Tung Chung Or Mui Wo.

Do carry something warm as it tends to get very windy in this part of Lantau. If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will be cancelled. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. And remember -- don't be late!

Bring the usual hiking essentials, plenty of water, swim gear, lunch and snacks for along the way,and a torch with spare batteries.

2. Walk report
Fifteen Trampers boarded the 11am ferry to Mui Wo from Central to participate in today's walk.

We reached Mui Wo at 11:50am,and after a quick head count, set off to the first section of the trail along the coastline. The pace was quite fast and by 1:15pm we reached Wang Tong and found a good spot by the beach and broke for lunch. We lingered for a while, enjoying the fair weather, calm surroundings and the gentle sounds of the waves. This inspired Charlie and Dominic to display and entertained us with their skills in stone skimming. After lunch,we headed up to Chi Ma Wan Correctional Institution where Howard made the lady Trampers to posed for a group photo before kidding to hand us over to the Correctional Service Officer. There were no inmates to greet us and that makes us wonder why it was so quite, the Charlie told us that it was a Sunday and the inmates were inside probably fallen asleep while watching football! The towering fences and barbed wires that surrounded the facility was not a pretty sight, and we felt so lucky yhat we (Trampers) are law abiding citizens and have the freedom to tramp the hills of Hong Kong anytime we want.

We then took the path leading up to Shap Long Irrigation Reservoir. The calm jade-like water and the wooded corners of the reservoir was captivating, and this serves as an inspiration for next weeek's walk proposal. We had a quick group photo, then followed the trail to Lung Mei and turned right up for a steep ascent and by 3:15pm reached the 303m summit of Lo Yan Shan.We again lingered for a long while ,enjoying the scenery as the steep ascent made us shed a fair amount of sweat. Then we followed the trail that ran across two more hills and finally headed down to Pui O beach for a nice refreshments. We then split up to two groups, one took the bus down to Mui Wo and the other took the bus to Tung Chung.

Thank you Charlie for your assistance and to everyone for the pleasant company. We had a fun day at Chi Ma Wan.
