| Walk on Nov 11: The Three Summits hike |
We culminate our "Summit Series" with an absolute belter of a hike!! You can be rest assured that this one is going to be an extra special event. What with the Trailwalker on at the same time, we must do something equally challenging or lunatic whichever way you look at it. We will do three summits in Lantau and if you thought last weeks' Six Summits hike was tough then think again. We'll meet at 8.45 am on Sunday, Nov 11, 2007 at the Central ferry Pier just outside the Mui Wo ferry departure gate. Pl note the earlier meeting time. We will take the 9 am ferry to Mui Wo and begin hiking immediately from the nearby village. The first section is a beautiful trail in the woods leading up to Sunset Peak ( 869 metres). Just before the summit though we turn off on the Lantau Trail to make an ascent of Lin Fa Shan (766 Metres). We retrace our steps back to the Lantau Trail and descend down to the saddle. From there it is a long and relentless ascent up to the summit of Lantau Peak (934 metres). The total ascent for the day is about 1800 metres so definitely get those extra pair of legs. This is a really tough hike and has never been done with the Trampers' before so expect a long hard day. It is imperative that we treat ourselves to a very nice meal at Stoep at the end of the day. If it is raining or threatening to rain (thunderstorm warning), the walk will be cancelled. If in doubt on the morning of the walk, call 8209-0517. The ten minute waiting rule applies and remember not to be late! Bring all the usual gear, in particular lots of water at least four litres, good shoes, change of socks/tshirt, a torch and a hat. Also, bring some lunch/ snacks for along the way. Do throw in a couple of energy bars/gels and keep your back pack as light as possible. Disclaimer:- People join this walk at their own risks. I shall not be held responsible in any way for any injury or death incurred or any loss or damage to personal property caused due to whatever causes including, but not limited to, negligence, neglect, errors of judgment and inadequate orientation skills on my part. The fact that you show up at the time and place on the day to join the walk is an implication that you have agreed to and accepted unconditionally this disclaimer.
