All our walks are led by volunteers and are planned one week in advance.  If you don't see an itinerary on our homepage, that means no one has proposed anything yet.  And if one is not posted by Saturday, you can safely assume that there is no walk the following day.

We communicate via our website and we do not maintain a mailing list.

This Sunday 14th October we will walk from Ngong Ping (the Big Buddha) to Tai O.  We will walk along sections 4 and 5 of the Lantau Trail, and then leave the trail to go overland due West to the coast.  In this part of the walk we will be climbing down a large (very scenic) and quite steep valley/waterfall. If the weather is warm, bring your bathers so as you can have a swim.  From the bottom, we will walk north to Tai O.

I know Vivek has lead a similar hike 5 weeks ago, but the turn has fallen to me to lead, and this is one of my favourites (and it is the perfect time of year to be there).  Also, seems like we have a lot of new people coming along, so I am sure there are many who have not experienced this great part of Hong Kong.

We will meet at Tung Chung MTR station at 10:30 am at the exit for the bus station (near the hang seng bank).  We will get the no 23 bus to Ngong Ping.  To return from Tai O, we will get the no 11 bus back to Tung Chung.

The walk is manageable - it is rated three boots for the climb down the valley / waterfall (note that we climb next to the waterfall, not in it).  If however, we arrive at that point and you are not comfortable, it is very straightforward to return to the Lantau Trail and walk directly to Tai O where you can meet us.

Please remember to bring all of the usual gear - lunch, a torch, sun block, mosquito spray and if the weather looks dodgy, rain gear.  In particular, some sturdy shoes.  There is no where along the way to purchase drinks, so ensure that you bring enough water.

If it is raining hard or thunderstorms are threatening, the walk might be cancelled. If in doubt, call the trampers hotline 8209-0517 in the morning.

I know that it is not good for the environment (mos. spray in particular),but you will surely need one if you come to this hike.(unless, you prefer to be eaten alive!):-)
